Papers from an important eighteenth-century religious society provide new insights into the Evangelical tradition in the Church of England. The Elland Society is one of the leading Evangelical clerical societies established in the eighteenth century. It provides a forum in which a group of like-minded clergymen are able to discuss matters of common interest and concern, and plays an important role in supporting young students who are intended for the ministry during their education at the universities and at a number of informal clerical seminaries.
