Between 1973 and 1996, the Provisional Irish Republican Army (PIRA) waged a campaign of terror against British targets in Continental Europe. The PIRA caused millions of pounds worth of damage, injured scores of people and murdered fifteen innocent people, all in the name of a "united Ireland". The victims included two Australian tourists shot dead by mistake on the market square in Roermond in the Netherlands (subject of new TV drama "The Spectacular"), a Belgian banker mistaken for a British diplomat, a young German woman killed in her car outside her home near Dortmund and a six-month old baby girl gunned down along with her father at a petrol station close to the German-Dutch border. No one has ever been convicted of the murders.The result of three years of extensive research and first-hand interviews with many of those involved, this is the true story of how the PIRA planned and carried out a disastrous campaign of attacks and the story of how the security services, law enforcement agencies and governments of eight countries struggled to stem the tide of violence.
