The remedy that has suggested itself to the writer is to return to first principles, as far as it is now practicable to do so, and to the same con trol being established over the value* of all the different parts of the currency of the realm, as the government always exercised when it con sisted alone of bullion coin, and as early as the long lapse of time in which the contrary practice has prevailed, may now make possible.
