This volume lists over 2000 novels published in the English language and in translation from September 1939 to 1988 which take World War II as their central theme. In it, a war novel is defined as not only those fictions dealing directly with the experience of men and women on the various battlefields and on the home fronts, but also those novels which explore personal relationships affected by the war or which take place in wartime.;Part I lists the novels in chronological order from 1939 and gives the appropriate bibliographical information for each. Part 2, the subject index, lists the novels firstly under national headings and then branch of service, theatre of war and in the case of major engagements, particular battles. Part 3, the author index, is an alphabetical listing giving only title and date; and Part 4 lists all novels by date.
