Publisher's Synopsis
The Northern Dynasties explores articulations of kingship and rule in the archaeological and ethnohistorical records of Chimor. Drawing on these two fields of study, these papers investigate the art, architectural, and archaeological remains at Chan Chan and related sites, as well as written sources, to inform views of Chimor society. Together, the monuments and texts reveal fascinating information about Chimu statecraft and views of kingship, and present an integrated overview of the northern dynasties, making possible a much fuller reconstruction of Indigenous culture.
