Publisher's Synopsis

The New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD) was adopted in 2001 with the aim of providing a new vision and strategic framework for Africa's economic and social development, including acceleration of economic growth, poverty reduction and integration into the world economy, consistent with the Millennium Development Goals. This publication contains the proceedings of a seminar held in Dakar, Senegal in December 2002, to discuss key opportunities and challenges facing NEPAD. Issues discussed include trade promotion, regional integration and globalisation; policy reform and foreign direct investment; the NEPAD economic and corporate governance initiative; the role of regional institutions and the IMF. The seminar was organised by the Joint Africa Institute (a collaborative effort of the African Development Bank, International Monetary Fund and the World Bank).
