The hearing was held pursuant to a committee resolution which authorized that hearings be held relating to the extent and character of Communist propaganda and conspiratorial techniques employed within the United States to promote the objectives of the Communist Party 1n the United States and to advance the purposes of the world Communist movement by the dissemination of false and misleading information concerning Communist doctrine and practices in regard to religion and ethnic and minority groups.
In his Opening statement the chairman cited statements by Lenin and Stalin regarding the traditional Communist position on religion. He also reviewed other Communist statements on the subject.
