The universe, together with the crowning faculty of self-determination, which is the highest image of the divine. He is a little universe, with the faculty of determining all the principles and uses of the universe gathered up in himself, freely as of himself, in the love and service returned to God. Man alone, therefore, is the image and likeness of God; and the universe is the image and likeness of man. But this, in volved in the creation of man, was not brought forth complete at once. Asthe child is born helpless, and at first develops only animal in stinots, so were the first men only possibilities and potential forms, capable of being informed reformed, and regenerated into angelic men.
