Publisher's Synopsis
Amy Newhall was ecstatic to receive permission to accompany Aaron Begay, the Navajo tribal archeologist, to map and document a little-known cliff dwelling. Finding Aztec petroglyphs on the cave wall was unexpected in the historical Anasazi homeland. But the desiccated body with an arrow protruding from its back was definitely not ancient history. A relic found with the corpse was not a simple clay pot or statue, but a gold figurine of Mictlantecuhtli-the Aztec god of death. Amy suspected this could be a part of the so-called Montezuma's Treasure that supposedly contained untold riches. When she discovers other Aztec artifacts, Amy believes at least part of the cache spirited north after Cortez's raided Montezuma's stronghold could be in Navajo country. Attempts made on the lives of the archeological party reinforce Amy's suspicions. But is the treasure real? If so, where is it? How many must die before the Navajo-Aztec connection questions are answered?
