Excerpt from The Nautical Almanac and Astronomical Ephemeris, for the Year 1774
Board of Longitude have thought proper to employ Mr. Mason arther in making the neceltary' Cal culations for improving mayer's printed Tables; under my Direction, by the Help of this Series of Obfervations, which comprehends fomewhat more than a Period of the Moon's Apogee; and I have the Pleafure to find from that Part of the Work which is already done, that the Corrections (contrary to Expectation) turn out fo confiderable 'as to give Room to hope that, when all the Cor reelions are made, the greatefi Errors of the Tables may be reduced within a much narrower Campafs than they are at prefent.
