Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from The Mystery of Pain: A Book for the Sorrowful

Dr. Hin ton's mind tended strongly towards meta physics; indeed, it may be truly said that he was born a metaphysician; and his earliest writings show conclusively the trend and nature of his thinking. He abandoned the practice of medicine early in middle life, and settled down in a tiny house in London, devoting his time to writing for the medical press, and in the preparation of his books. He was poor, and therefore forced to practise great economy. He describes his house at Tot tenham as so small that, seated in his sit ting-room, he could Open the door with one hand, poke the fire with the other.
