Publisher's Synopsis

This work consists of two parts: a book of the hours of the end of the 13th century preceded by 23 slightly earlier minatures of Old and New Testament scenes surviving from another book, probably a psalter. It is therefore one of the earliest books of hours, written before the standardization of the text and decoration during the 14th and 15th centuries. John Higgitt recounts the provenance of this work of medieval art and the influence of the Paris school on the manuscript artists.
