Publisher's Synopsis
This book is one of the Pitman Publishing series of textbooks which are written to cover the post-Wilkinson syllabi of Stage 2 exams of the Banking Diploma of the Chartered Institute of Bankers (CIB).;This book has been designed as the most direct route to meeting the requirements of the Monetary and Financial System (MFS) examination paper of the CIB. The MFS exam paper will consist of eight questions, covering eight of the ten subject areas of the syllabus, from which the candidate will be expected to select and answer four questions in the essay or detailed note form. The old Monetary Economics syllabus has been altered in (1990) in order to give the subject a greater practical and institutional bias.;Chapter 1 provides pointers to the candidate on how best to give their private study time in preparinng for the examinations. It also gives suggestions on examination technique, i.e. on how candidates actually conduct themselves during the examination itself.;Chapters 2 to 11 are arranged in sequence with the layout of the syllabus. Each chapter begins by stating the requirements of the syllabus for the topic covered in that chapter. This is followed by a section which briefly defines the technical terms involved and which gives an overview of the topic area in question, to help the candidate get started. Then follow two sections dealing with the essential theories and principles connected with the topic; one dealing with their explanation and the other with their applications to the UK.;These sections are backed up by approximately six examination questions recently set in that topic area, together with outline answers. There then follows a full speciman answer to a carefully chosen recent examination question: this is to help candidates improve their technique in how best to answer a question, the whole question and nothing but the question.
