The former edition of this work is entirely out of print; and so many material changes have been recently made in these laws that there is a pressing necessity for this re-issue in an enlarged and corrected form. This edition embraces all the Congressional legislation in regard to the Army, Volunteers and Militia, Bounties, Pensions, &c., from the formation of the Government to the end of the past session of Congress These laws, chronologically arranged, are all inserted in full, distinguishing by a larger type those in force from those Which have been repealed or are obsolete, With ample notes and references, and the legal decisions in all the caseswhere they have been given. All the chap ters are numbered to correspond With those of Little Brown's edition of the Statutes at Large; and every act refers to the volume and page of the Statutes, Where it may also be found, and no other code is referred to. The running heads indicate the contents of each page, thus forming a Complete history of the military legislation of the country.
