The editions of the military laws heretofore published by Col. Cross, and Capt. Beitzel, of the United States Army, were found very convenient for reference. Nearly twelve years having elapsed since the last of these editions was issued, there existed a great necessity for a new compilation, which would correct some errors and omissions of the former publications, and include all the Military enactments from 1846 to the present date.
