In preof of what 1s here advanced, I can allure the reader, that I have heard more doubts caprefi'ed, and more difficul ties (tar-ted relative to what is called the rate of a time-keeper's going, the proper mode of obtaining it, and the degree of dependence which may be placed on them, in the laft twelve or eighteen months, than in all my life before, though I have been pretty 1nt1mate with the fubjeét for near forty year5° and;, I; am firmly perfuaded that if the ufe of time-keepers had not been well eftablifhed by experience before thefe new doctrines were broached, they Would not have been fpeedil'y introduced into praétice now.
