Congress at length authorized the actual printing of five thousand Copies of the first part of the work.
Meanwhile, anxious that the information collected on some of the more important surgical points should be made public, the Surgeon General published, in 1867 and 1869, two important monographs pre pared by Dl'. Otis: the first on Amputations at the Hip-joint, the second on Excisions of the head of the Femur for shot injury.
