Publisher's Synopsis
This is the first volume in the EC/International Law Forum series and represents the product of the inaugural meeting of this event which took place in Bristol in April 1994. The choice of topic was partly dictated by the circumstances of the time and partly by ongoing considerations. Given that the Community is the largest trading entity in the world today and that the process of completing the Internal Market and bringing into force the Treaty on European Union almost overshadowed such important and sensitive issues as the negotiations within the GATT and the Community?s commercial relations with Eastern Europe and its major trading partners, this work concentrates on the Community?s positon in the wider world and in particular, the implications of the completion of the Internal Market on its external relations. - - This book examines and analyses recent legal developments in the area of EC external relations. In particular, it deals with: measures taken to complete the Common Commercial Policy (CCP); various aspects of the Community?s participation in the Uruguay Round negotiations; the latest generation of 'Europe Agreements'; the long-standing economic relations of the European Community with the African Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) countries with particular emphasis on the Lomé Conventions and the Community?s economic and trade relations with the US and Japan. - - Written by academic specialists and Community and government officials from Europe and beyond, this work should prove invaluable to law, economics and politics students and academics and to all those interested in the legal regulation of the policies pursued by the Community in its external economic and trade relations.
