The history could be made both continuous and compendious by the mere omission of what was not essential to the narrative, without disturbing the traditional order of the books. But the books of the prophets and 'wisdom' writers have been te arranged, so that they may succeed each other, as nearly as possible, in chronological order. The book of Psalms, which is so closely related both to the prophets and to the sages, finds an appropriate place between them.
