Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from The Last of the Lenap, and Other Poems
In bringing before the public this volume of Poems, the author feels it due to himself to observe that many of them were composed early in life; but the two prin cipal poems, which stand first in the collection, as well as most of the scientific, and some of the descriptive pieces, are of recent production. He trusts that they will all be found calculated to promote the cause of piety and truth, which was the original design of poe try, and ought still to be the main object of its cultiva tion.
