Publisher's Synopsis
This text is an anthology which juxtaposes familiar and unfamiliar texts (including pre-20th century examples and modern classics) in order to focus on the many different ways of using language and the equallly diverse ways of reading. Students will be introduced to how readings are influenced by context, audience, language and style. Register, audience and language manipulation remain crucial concerns of English teaching at Key Stage four. This text seeks to stimulate pupils to ask questions about the nature of language and enable them to recognize the differences between texts.
