Excerpt from The Language and Dialect of the Later Old English Poetry
Only in the case of the certain works of Cynewulf, I have tried by comparing the results yielded by each poem, and by considering the rhymes of which he made occasional use, to find some hypothesis which will account for the somewhat con?icting evidence concerning his native dialect.
The following is a list of the poems I have investigated, followed in each case by the abbreviation which I have used.
