The appreciative thanks of the Caperton family are due Mr. John Hays Caperton, of Louisville, Kentucky, without whose generosity its publication would not now be made possible. Acknowledgment is likewise tendered to Mr. R. C. Ballard Thruston, of the Filson Club of Louisville, and Mr. Edward A.
