As the current age thunders to a close, five childhood friends are playing in a river that runs through a forest to the sea. All the while, the society they are to inherit is disintegrating. The story follows the kids from the river into adulthood. Their diverse predispositions lead them to finding love and losing it, to ascending meteoric careers and plunging into the depths of self-destruction. The times they navigate are rife with political conspiracies, war and moral decline. They find their primal predispositions have lived through other lives in ages past before becoming theirs, returning as they do, age after age in search of fulfillment.
