As the imputation of Christ's obedience to the precepts of the law, f appears tothe Synod to be a truth of the gospel of great importance, and exta' nsive in?uence; they earnestly exhort all under their inspection to contend earnestly for it; and they warn them against the contrary doctrine, as a departure from the purity of the profession which they have attained, as disturbing the order, and weakening the connexions of truth in the system of the gospel, Oas depreciating the righteousness of Christ, by detaching from it the only quality which makes it a proper righteousness, as depriving Christians of the consolation which they may derive from the obedience of Christ, when they have an af?icting sense of tho imperfection of their own obedience, as very offensive to.
