Publisher's Synopsis
The people of Tarmith live in quiet totalitarianism, and a mysterious "radiation" in the wild keeps everyone trapped in their cities. Upon reaching the age of adulthood, the various councils of government determine where each individual should live, where they should work, and who they should mate with.
An honor student named Sire Magnis becomes disillusioned with the society when he crosses paths with Maria, a former worker in Tarmith's prostitution business. Now a middle-aged woman past her prime, Maria is deemed unfit for future service, and was promptly kicked out onto the streets, with the councils slacking to rehome her. After losing the last of his family in a raid by Eaters - monstrous humanoids with large mouths and an appetite for human flesh - Sire accidentally stumbles upon a way to live outside of the city. It is there where he discovers a lost, ancient magical power called Arkana. Upon returning to Tarmith, Sire is met with the tragic news that the love of his life, a martial arts prodigy named Niddah Lionheart, is in danger of suffering a similar sentence as Maria. Working against the clock, Sire must master the basics of Arkana to save Niddah from a fate worse than death.
