Please enjoy these brief thoughts from Stephen on how to get the most out of your journal writing and time with God. We can't thank you enough for allowing us to walk with you during this part of your journey. What do I need to know about my journal and journaling? Awareness: It has been said that our thoughts control virtually all of our actions. If actions are our focus, then the removal of unhealthy ones and the replacement of life-giving ones should be our goal. Journals can reveal direction, passion, cause and action. The function of writing requires the brain to use the majority of its senses to process and develop a thought. Sometimes the process of writing allows us to pour our hearts out on paper. Why: One of the biggest mistakes I made during my healing journey was choosing not to write my thoughts down on paper. I learned over time that the difficult thoughts in my head would never go anywhere and would stay circling in my mind. If you have ever seen a pot of boiling water, you can imagine it spilling over. How does this relate to our thought life? As the heat of our circumstances increases, "suffering" begins to boil over into our lives and takes a toll on our thoughts, decisions, and actions. However, if the water is boiling and we CHOOSE to pour the water through a set of healthy filters, we end up with purified thoughts, decisions, and actions. Over the next few weeks, I will walk this journey with you as you begin to ask yourself questions, which I once asked myself. What: Please take this time, no matter the suffering, hurt, or pain, to write down your reflections each day on paper. Filter your thoughts, notes, and self-realizations through the Biblical principles presented to create new dreams, hope, and most of all, forces of habit.
