The nurse Gough slept in a room on the first ?oor. On the opposite side of the same room Saville Kent slept in a crib, and in another crib, adjoining the bed of the nurse, the little girl, his younger sister, slept. The elder girl was in her mother's room on the Opposite side of the passage. About five o'clock the nurse woke. She stated that looking across to the little boy's crib she saw that he was not there, but did not feel any alarm, as she supposed that his mother had fetched him during the night. It was not until some hours afterwards, that on going to her mistress's room she found that he was not there. It should be mentioned here that on the housemaid going down stairs to open the windows, she found the shutters of the draw ing-room window unfastened and the window partly raised. On the child being missed a search took place, and on examining the closet in the garden a pool of blood was found on the ?oor, and the body of the child was discovered in the vault amongst the soil.
