Pieces of raw beef of a definite size were used for food. Although an attempt was made to keep the pieces uniform, the Size varied somewhat; that is, both the size of the pieces given to different animals at the same feeding and also the size of the pieces given to one animal at different feedings. A comparison of records, taken at random, Of the amount Of beef fed to the individuals at the same and at different feeding periods (the amount fed to the individual being determined by taking the average of the weight Of beef given to the set), shows the follow ing variations.
