Publisher's Synopsis

One of the main dilemmas of the current humanitarian crisis is the lack of interest of Western cultures in dealing with current immigration issues. In this book, we explore not only the ebbs and flows of migratory issues but also the lack of global jurisprudence to cope with human rights violations in the world. Although the nation-state is inclined to protect the lay citizens´ rights, under some conditions it acts as a key driver to systematic human rights violations. In our times, a moment of humanity where the "other" is considered as "undesired guests," a hot debate on the future of human rights and the challenges faced by liberal democracies to manage the current humanitarian crisis is necessary. The selected chapters have been authored by well-versed authors who dedicated their lives to the study of this phenomenon. The book interrogates further the failure of the United Nations to give a firm legal background to be applied contextually in practical terms.
