Publisher's Synopsis
This is an account of the author's search for a cure for multiple sclerosis. The hope-merchants are the people she consults - an astrologer, a homoeopath, a reflexologist, an acupuncturist, a Philippine healer, a songoma, her guru, and of course members of the mainstream medical profession.;Throughout the book, Joy Inglethorpe challenges and questions God - sometimes with angry humour, sometimes with humility - trying to understand His reasons for bringing the disease to her. Although the book is autobiographical, it has many of the elements of fiction: lively dialogue, a distinctive narrative voice (often naive, and always demanding and impatient), and a central character who refuses to be disillusioned in her personal quest.
