Publisher's Synopsis

The setting is World War II around the Port of Fremantle. The story relates to the activities of the Holy Smokes Gang and The Stinking Head Gang. Uncle Jack, the founder of a Z Force operation against the Japanese, paddles into Japanese harbours in Indonesia in native canoes to fix limpet mines to the various ships. Poacher Kenworthy operates a black-market supply, providing ships with fresh food in return for tobacco and drink. He has found a way into the highly defended harbour. This comes into use when Uncle Jack must get his navigator out of jail and back to base on the highly secret Garden Island. The Holy Smokes leader is Tommy McGee. When he went on a fishing holiday, they get mixed up with Japanese submarines preparing to attack Fremantle Harbour to get to the secret Allied submarine base. The action heats up and involves all the characters in a successful defense against superior numbers.
