N unusual feature of this Church Register is that the entries, instead of being arranged in the ordinary manner under the separate heads of Baptisms, Marriages, and Burials, have been inserted promiscuously in the order of time. A Memorandum on the first page states that it is a Transcript of entries made during the preceding 40 years, the whole being copied out by George Case, the then Vicar, in 1598. "Liber Registralis Ecclesias de Boxlye, continens nomina eorum qui, a primo beatas memorias Elizabethas Begimims anno, vel baptismo initiati, vel matrimonio copulati et conjuncti, vel sepulturte traditi fuere in dicta parochia. "Emptus fuit liber iste xi. mo. die Octobris anno Incarnationis Dominicas 1598, pretio xs. ex sumptibus dictaa parochias, Incumbente turn ibidem Georgio Case, Artium Magistro, Oxoniensi, ceconomicis1 illius anni Johanne Payne et Eichardo Goldsmith, anno regni Eeginas Elizabethas xl. 1 The Churchwardens were so called as having charge of the Parish Funds, Vivat Elyzabetha Regina Anglias, Francias, et Hybernias Regina, Fidei Defensatrix, Virgo Virtute Victoriosa" The entries for the first two years are here given in extenso, to show the unusual system above referred to.
