The editor of this little volume intended bringing out an edition of the works of dr. French in a large form, and had made ar rangements with his publisher for that pur pose; however, the latter gentleman having been requested by in?uential persons to adopt a cheaper, and consequently more general mode of circulation than that previously intended, and the belief that the distinguished author himself, if alive, would have published his works in the same manner, were considera tions which at once induced the editor to alter his mind and to make these celebrated Tracts a volume of the Library of Ireland. This is, perhaps, one of the first attempts that has been made in this country to place reprints of scarce and valuable works, ma terials of history, within reach of the people; to introduce and popularize among them a.
