Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from The Heroic Ballads of Russia
In this introduction some regard has, as far as possible, been paid to the theory of the essentially multiple origin of folk-lore; that a number of circumstances ?ow together from all sources and make a character up. Thus a com parison of some hero with a natural feature, with the rays of the red sun, would be the natural glorification of him, but not a proof that he was a mere metaphor of the sun.
