This is a major new commentary on the Gospel According to John, one of the most distinctive and theologically profound documents in the New Testment. John poses more enigmatic problems than any other gospel writing, and is probably the most studied New Testament writing and the subject of numberous commentaries. The best known and most used commentaries on John, however, were written before recent developments in biblical studies, and are beginning to how their age. The present work is designed to meet the need for an up-to-date commentary on John. In this commentary, Brodie synthesizes traditional historical methods with the newer literary approaches to the biblical text. He also includes his own innovative translaiton of John.
