Stage vacant when curtain rises. One hears someone whistling outside fence, and in a mo ment sam, the negro trainer, comes through fence.
Sam. (singing) All aboard! All aboard' All aboard for Alabam! (he makes a double shuffle across stage, going over to trunk, and uh locks it. Whistles as he takes out masks, bats, sweaters, etc. Each time he takes out a bat he gives it a twirl at imaginary ball. He places a number of spiked shoes in front of bench)
