This is an overview of the concepts and methodologies of land evaluation and the formulation of land use options. The text has been structured around issues of land use planning at different levels of aggregation. Various case studies represent different scales of aggregation: national; supra-national; regional and farming land. Each case study presents the various perspectives of land use planning, from the viewpoints of land users, scientists and policy-makers. The text does not focus on one specific climatic zone, but illustrates common features amongst agro-climatic and economic zones across the world.
