Publisher's Synopsis
The first eight volumes of The Frick Collection: An Illustrated Catalogue chronicled the museum's world-famous holdings of paintings, sculpture, furniture, gilt bronzes, enamels, porcelains, rugs, and silver. This ninth and final volume covers the many extraordinary drawings and prints assembled by Henry Clay Frick and his successors, as well as a wide range of important items acquired since 1968 and several works that were purchased earlier but that have never before been published.
The thirty-one drawings are by masters such as Pisanello, Altdorfer, Rubens, Claude, Rembrandt, Greuze, Gainsborough, Goya, Ingres, Corot, and Whistler. Included in the impressive group of fifty-nine prints are four superb impressions by Dürer, three engravings by Van Dyck, eleven of Rembrandt's most celebrated etchings and drypoints, thirteen of Meryon's pivotal Etchings of Paris, and twelve Whistler prints composing the First Venice Set.
The fourteen paintings acquired since 1968 include works by Gentile da Fabriano, Piero, Memling, Watteau, Guardi, Reynolds, Raeburn, and Corot. The eight sculptures are by Laurana, Verrocchio, Antico, Severo da Ravenna, Jonghelinck, Algardi, Bernini, and Coysevox. Finally, there are eight works of decorative art, including an Italian credenza and five Flemish tapestries.
