The free public library of the City of Newark was organized by authority of the Legislature of New Jersey, and will be maintained by an annual tax which has been voted by the citizens, for the use of the People, for whose benefit it is designed. In January, 1889, the Board of Trustees leased for a term of five years, with privilege of purchase, the new edifice of the Newark Library Associa.
