Publisher's Synopsis
An innovative analysis of Dutch, Danish and Irish foreign policy, focusing upon their Europeanization as a result of European Union membership. Participation in the deepening process of foreign and security policy cooperation (EPC/CFSP) has led to an evolutionary change in their structures and expectations of national foreign policy in these three states. By analyzing their foreign policies prior to their participation in foreign policy cooperation and by looking at their input to the creation of a collective EC/EU policy in three case studies, this book will argue that some level of Europeanization is evident. Moreover, a key feature of the book is a series of in-depth interviews with key national and EU foreign policy makers. These interviews provide an insiders? account of how this process of Europeanization is occurring and where it may be headed. In conclusion, it will be argued that this is symptomatic of a broader Europeanization of EU member states that pre-supposes neither federalism nor establishment of a new model of European power politics. The text should be of interest to scholars of comparative foreign policy, of European integration, EU foreign policy and International Relations. -
