The goal of the Dahlem Konferenzen is to promote an international, interdisciplinary exchange of scientific information and ideas, to stimulate international co-operation in research and to develop and test new models conducive to more effective communication between scientists.;This volume contains the proceedings and results of a Dahlem Workshop, held 13th-18th March 1988 in Berlin, which was organized to assess and interpret the environmental record of glaciers. Topics covered included environmental records in alpine glaciers and studies of the polar ice.
