Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from The Engineering Journal, 1926, Vol. 9
Some doubt has existed in the minds of many as to the effect that extremely cold weather might have on the Oil in transformers with the external cooling features. An experiment was made with a 500 unit which had been exposed to a temperature of approximately 20° C. Below zero for some time and was then loaded by applying 110 per cent voltage and 140 per cent load. Figure no. 7 shows a summary of the results Obtained. It will be noted that the Oil between coils, where we might expect the highest temperatures, kept well within a safe limit. No extreme temperatures were found and the transformer soon went merrily on its way with the Oil circulating freely.
