To accompany the existing Index (of Persons), this Index of Subjects has been prepared. Intended as an extra aid when using "The Encylopaedia of Islam", it provides a guide in the form of a thesaurus. Entries are given in English and French and are followed by the titles of the relevant "Encylopaedia of Islam" articles, as well as by cross-references to articles which are not primarily about that subject, but include information which could be useful.;The text should be useful for the Islamologist, the student of the history and culture of the peoples of Islam, as well as for the more general geographer and sociologist.
