In order to analyze the fundamental question of whether diet plays a role in the development of cancer, this review focuses effects of dietary components on the development of tumours, and on possible mechanisms through which these components exert an effect.;It compiles the latest animal research data, emphasizing the major dietary components such as fat, protein and amino acides, carbohydrates and fibres. In addition, antioxidants are considered in some depth because of their well-known influence on the carcinogenic process as well as the significant level of usage in the food supply.
