The aim of this study is to offer a systematic reconstruction of the agricultural output and input in Belgium between 1880 and 1980. This monograph describes and explains the structural changes in belgium's long term agricultural development in a century of fundamental change. In the general introduction a survey of concepts and definitions, a theoretical approach to such concepts as traditional and modern agriculture, and an outline of belgian agricultural history before 1880 is given. The second part, the method, deals extensively with the methodological aspects of reconstructing a reliable databank. The third part, analysis and interpretation, focuses on the development of agricultural output, production factors, productivity and agricultural income, and describes the importance of the agricultural sector to the national economy.
