The present facilities for such investigation, render the labor comparatively light, as the records and files of papers in the various public offices of the State are much more accessible than they were forty years ago, and generally are in better condition. It is not to be inferred, however, from. This remark, that all of our public rec ords are in good order for it is a fact that some are still in a lam entable condition of disorder and decay, and under the charge of officials who care but little or nothing for their preservation.
