Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from The Development of Strategical Science During the 19th Century

I must tell those readers that I have endeavoured to be perfectly plain. Every not absolutely neces sary term, every technical expression which it was possible to avoid, I have omitted, and presumed no more military knowledge than the fulfilment of lawful military service has made the common property of all educated men.
