Excerpt from The Determination and Occurrence of Amino-Acids in the Blood: A Thesis Presented to the Faculty of the Graduate School of Cornell University for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy
The present study was planned to extend our knowledge of the quan tity of amino-acids in the blood of widely varying species, including human blood, under both normal and pathological conditions. Ii'n order to do this it was necessary at the outset to test existing methods for the determina tion of amino-acids in biological ?uids and to modify one of the procedures heretofore available so as to have a method capable of a satisfactory degree of accuracy.
It is outside the scope of the present paper to enter into a discussion of the determination and identification of individual amino-acids. The methods with which we shall concern ourselves are for the estimation of total animo - acid nitrogen.
