Publisher's Synopsis
This special issue of Psychopathology presents papers from the First International Conference on Delusional Misidentification Syndromes (DMS), held in Paris 1993, exactly 70 years after the first detailed description of a patient with this syndrome was published. Various aspects of the syndrome are out-lined, including prevalence, symptoms, classification, the presence of the syndrome in a number of psychiatric disorders, neuropsychological and brain image studies as well as psychodynamic approaches. The principal symptoms of the Capgras delusion, the Fregoli delusion, the delusion of intermetamorphosis and the delusion of subjective doubles are described. A key question is also raised on whether these disorders should be included in international psychiatric diagnostic systems.
